If a valve is closed no feeler gauge is going fit between an exhaust or intake valve while it is seated. Diesels don’t have spark plugs, so I’m a little confused why you called a feeler gauge a “spark” feeler. Usually you would use a feeler gauge to see if the valve’s rocker travel needs to be adjusted. Or if it is within specs, this is called adjusting the valve lash. Is this what you meant?
