How old is my rudge bicycle?

I recently purchased a rudge bicycle and I'm curious as to approximately how old it is. It's three speed. I've looked at other pictures of Rudges, and one distinctive feature of mine is the top bar (not sure the technical term) is slightly curved, creating a very obtuse U shape between the handle bars and seat, and opening toward the ground. Anyone a vintage bike specialist? Thanks!

Hardly a specialist, but I have some knowledge. I also have a 1939 Rudge. If yours has a Sturney Archer rear hub, the two digit date the hub was manufactured will be imprinted on the hub underneath the Sturney Archer name. If you click the link I've provided you'll see what I mean. The date on the right is the month of manufacture by the way. If it doesn't have a S/A hub then you need to go to oldroads.com where the real Rudge specialists hang out. More then that I can't tell you without a photo. Rudge Whitworth was bought out by Raleigh in the mid-fifties, Raleigh kept producing bicycles under the Rudge name for about eight or nine years afterwards.
