How do I add coolant to a 95' Monte carlo z34?
I just replaced the lower radiator hose and in the process most of the coolant drained out of my engineand radiator. My question is how do I add the coolant now without getting air bubble? the front panel of my car says it requires a special fill procedure and could damage the engine if not done correctly. any input would be appreciated.
also ona side not what ratio of coolant/water should i use? thanks
With the engine STONE COLD, remove the radiator cap at the top of the radiator. Fill it to the top. Put the cap back on properly. Then find the radiator overflow bucket. It is usually a clear bucket that has a small coolant line running to it from the radiator. Fill the overflow bucket up to the COLD line written on it.
At this point, you are able to start your car. Let it idle until it reaches normal operating temperature, usually 180-200. At this point, locate the air bleeder valve on top of your thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is usually found on top of the engine intake. You will see a small screw on top of the thermostat housing. With gloves on, and a rag to catch extra coolant...slowly open this bleeder valve with a screwdriver. You should hear air hissing. Let air escape until only coolant starts to trickle out. When the coolant trickles out, close the valve with the screwdriver.
At this point, rev your engine for 10 throttle bursts or so. Then repeat the air bleeder valve procedure. If coolant starts to trickle out immediately, the air has been bled from the cooling system and you should be done. If at any point temps start to get higher than normal repeat the air bleeding procedure. Usually one or two bleeds gets all the air out of the system though.
