Should golf carts be street legal to offset the cost of gas?
I saw a clip on the news several days ago where some small towns are making golf carts street legal. They only are allowed to be used on certain roads though-like side roads or roads with a speed limit of around 25mph i think. Of course you wouldnt want them on any major roads or highways. I thought this was a great idea. I live so close to work that i could actually drive one to and from work and the store if this was legal in my city. Think of how much gas we could save if this became common.
Is this a good idea or not?
Please keep in mind i am talking about on only small roads with low speed limits. 25mph or lower.
Maybe on some faster roads with a special lane for them.
Certainly never on a 65mph freeway.
My uncle in Florida has one and it goes at a maximum of 12mph for about an hour, then you have to charge it overnight (all night). Not practical for the average family or even single person, I think.
It's about time those clever scientists developed an alternative fuel - we've had decades and decades to work this one out and we've just stuck our heads in the sand. Well (to mix a few metaphors) now the chickens are coming home to roost. The Arabs have got us by the short and curlies, and they're twisting 'em.
